The cotton-top tamarin is a primate belonging to the marmoset family and originates in the rainforests of Colombia. The species is critically endangered due to a decrease of more than 80% of its habitat over the last three generations (18 years). Aside from the destruction of their habitat, the wild population is threatened by the illegal pet trade and exploitation as laboratory test subjects. The Zoo participates in the European Endangered Species Program (EEP) for this species and our group of tamarins have successfully produced offspring in recent years.
