Lorikeets Aviary

Lorikeets Aviary

  • The habitat and area of origin of the lorikeets (or lorries) is in forests and groves in Indonesia and the Philippines, New Guinea, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. In the wild, lorries eat mainly nectar and pollen. In captivity, they require a special diet that includes nectar substitutes and certain fruits and vegetables. Lorries usually live in pairs, but large flocks can form around food concentrations, such as flowering trees, or during non-breeding seasons. The lorry has a special tongue, at the end of which is a brush-like structure that allows them to collect nectar and pollen. Many species living on islands are in danger of extinction, due to the destruction of their habitat and infiltration of the islands by rats, which prey on the lorries, their eggs, and chicks.
  • The lorikeet aviary is one of the special places which emphasize the connection between man and animals. In order to achieve closeness and direct contact with these parrots, they must be provided with respect, appreciation, and protection. The experience of visiting the aviary brings visitors closer to the animals through love and respect. We hope that the experience will lead to increased protection of animals in the wild and preservation of their habitats, to ensure their future and well-being. At the aviary, you can feed the lorries with a special nectar (for an additional fee).
