Planning a Visit to the Zoo

Must admission tickets be purchased in advance?

To ensure your zoo visit, and to avoid extra waiting in line, we recommend that you reserve tickets in advance of your visit through the zoo’s website. There are automated ticket machines at the zoo, however the number of tickets is limited on crowded days. There’s a possibility that without previously purchased tickets, you may arrive at the zoo when it’s at full capacity and won’t be able to enter. To purchase tickets, click here.

Is admission to the aquarium included in a zoo ticket?

No. Aquarium admission requires a separate ticket, reserved in advance. To order aquarium tickets, click here.

From what age do visitors require an admission ticket?

Children from age 3 require an admission ticket. Parents’ ID must be presented.

Is there a special price for groups?

The zoo offers special benefits for groups from institutions and organizations only. To schedule a group visit, click here.

Can zoo tickets be purchased for a Saturday visit?

Tickets for Saturdays and holidays can be purchased through the website or at the automated ticket machines near the zoo’s parking lot.

Are there discounts for zoo admission?

Those with a Jerusalemite Card of a Matmon membership are entitled to a zoo admission discount. Additionally, members of the security forces (military soldiers, police, etc.) those in national service, senior citizens, and others are entitled to a zoo admission discount. Does an escort for a visitor with disabilities require anadmission ticket?

An escort for someone with disabilities who has a disability ID which clearly indicates that he or she is entitled to an escort who is exempt from paying admission does not require an admission ticket.

Does the zoo offer additional attractions for an additional fee?

At the zoo, you can enjoy riding the Zoo Train, for which you will need to purchase a ticket for the nominal fee of 3 NIS when boarding the train. At the lorikeet aviary, you can purchase nectar for a few NIS to feed the birds.

Can dogs or other animals be brought into the zoo?

No, bringing outside animals into the zoo is prohibited.

Can guide dogs be brought into the zoo?

Guide dogs may be brought into the zoo by arrangement in advance and with guidance by zoo personnel. The visit must be arranged in advance through the contact us web page.

What is the climate at the zoo?

Since most of the zoo is outdoors, the climate corresponds to the Jerusalem weather forecast.

Is the zoo open on weekends?

Yes, the zoo is open on weekends.

Are there special tours and activities at the zoo?

Getting to the zoo and parking

Is there parking at the zoo?

There are several parking lots around the zoo, including parking for people with disabilities, near the entrance.

How do you get to the zoo by public bus?

Line 33, from Har Nof, Bayit VeGan, Malha Mall, and Gilo, stops at the zoo.

Line 26A from Bayit VeGan and Ramat Sharet neighborhoods, stops at the zoo and the Israel Aquarium.

We recommend checking the bus company websites for the up-to-date schedules of activity and for any changes to the bus lines.

Is there a train to the zoo?

Israel Railways no longer operates the line that once stopped near the zoo and currently only operates the line at the Yitzhak Navon Station at the city entrance. For more details, please visit the Israel Railways website: https://www.rail.co.il/en

 

Food and Drink

Can food and drink be brought into the zoo?

Bringing food and drink into the zoo is permitted and recommended, however there are some exhibits, in which food and drink are not permitted. At hose exhibits, you will be asked to place your food in your bag.

Does the zoo offer dining services or a coffee shop?

For your convenience, there is a coffee shop and snack bar at the zoo entrance courtyard, where you will find soft drinks, snacks, sandwiches, pizza, and chips. The snack bar does not have kosher certification.

In the summer months, on weekends and on holidays, additional snack bars are open at the petting zoo and at Noah’s Ark Visitors’ Center (across from the Syrian brown bear exhibit)

Is there an area for barbecuing?

No. Fire is prohibited throughout the zoo.
