Research at the Biblical Zoo
Modern zoos, by virtue of their variety of exotic species and professional staff members, also function as research centers. Studies are conducted in various fields such as animal behavior and welfare, veterinary medicine, reproduction, genetics, and nutrition. Because of the importance of these studies to nature conservation efforts, research has been identified as one of the major roles of modern zoos by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). The Biblical Zoo initiates and conducts independent research, cooperates with researchers from various academic institutions and zoos and supports research through its Prof. Aharon Shulov Scholarship Fund. The Zoo also encourages research on a smaller scale through its High School Graduation Program.
